MINI COLLECTIONS / PORCELAIN PLATES

I'm a huge fan of vintage porcelain plates. I have a small collection on display on our living room wall (above) and a few more hanging out in a curio cabinet and kitchen cabinets (which we use daily). I have not pictured all as this post would become quite lengthy but pulled some of the loves. Something about each of these patterns and color ways have always drawn me in. Each piece is a like a mini illustration in itself and I just can't help but buy them when I spot one's I love. We use a handful in our kitchen for serving purposes but the ones I really love are on display. That one I marked "fav" (below) is surely my most favorite found plate (well the kitty one's pretty cute too), the yellow & gray swirls by Homer Laughlin for Dura Print. Though the design is so simple I just find it so beautiful. Is it odd to collect plates? Do you have a small (or large) collection yourself? I hope your weekend was fabulous. I have a giveaway up at 9am, and you can get a sneak peek over on the right sidebar. See ya soon, Happy Monday!

MUSIC : BELLE & SEBASTIAN

.

I love Belle & Sebastian and I've been listening to this indie pop band for a bit now and I never seem to get sick of their music. Like most things when you listen to them to much they start to get blah but the more I listen to them I still love them. This group of 7 have such a great style and I knew I loved them even more when I read up on them a while back to learn they named their band after a 1960's children's book titled "Belle et S├ębastien ". I hope you enjoy too, especially if you've never heard of them. I won't lie, the music video's are kinda weird but the music is beyond fabulous. Promise! ;) Happy Thursday!

MINI COLLECTIONS / HOLE PUNCH

Happy Monday! Hope you had a fabulous weekend. This weekend we were busy with random projects and I found myself starting to prep for my craft fair this June. I am making my own labels, packaging and tags so I found myself using tons of different tools including a variety of hole punches. I love the new hole punch I bought at Michael by Martha Stewart, top left white one. That lady has so many cool items I just wanted to buy them all and I spotted this one yesterday but decided to pass cause I figured who needs so many hole punches... well maybe I do? I secretly wanna go back and buy more. Do you have some fancy hole punches you love? Who are they by and what do they look like? Here's how I've been using mine, simple holes like this or some fun scalloping like this. Oh we also had a little confetti party with the extra's. It was a bunch of fun. Enjoy :)

Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, two successful fashion designers created this lovely line titled "Red Valentino" which launches later this year. The style of these dresses and accents pieces, are wonderful and have a vintage feminine feel that I love. Each piece is complimented by beautiful color palette, and some super cute shoes. Though probably no where in my price range I would so love one of these beauties. I can dream, right? ;) To see the entire collection click here. Happy Weekend!!!

ROOFTOP GARDENING AT THE EAGLE STREET ROOFTOP FARM

I'm blown away by this garden. It is pretty much the most magnificent garden I've ever seen and where is it you may be wondering, well, atop of a warehouse rooftop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On the shoreline of the East River, the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm measures 6,000 square feet and houses and organic green roof with vegetables, chickens and even bee's. The farmers of the garden supply an onsite farm market, and even bicycle fresh produce to local restaurants. How cool is that! So three stories up in the air, the power of an idea & fresh food are growing. Happy Friday!

POINT & CLICK WITH ANNA Z :: ANIMAL PORTRAITS

.

Hello Adalou Vintage readers! It's Anna Z again. Today, I would like to share a few animal portraits and a some photography tips. As I have said before, I own a Canon Digital Rebel XTI. I also own a wide angle macro lens screw on. I use this more often than not! This lens does double duty. It's great for use to capture landscapes and large settings since it allows you to get a wider view and also works well when you want to get up close to shoot detail.

I don't like to shoot animals straight on. This angle is usually not the most flattering and isn't as intriguing. Changing your stance and moving above and below the animal helps to get different views and also allows the pet to move around without you getting frustrated. You get the most natural expressions this way!

I always shoot manual setting, lens included. When you're shooting animals you need to be quick. Quick shutter, quick trigger. Animals move quickly and don't always obey command. You will need plenty of light. I suggest shooting outdoors or in a room with a lot of white light. For this photo, I chose to zoom a little on his nose and also placed the lens as close to Benny's face as I could. He did wiggle a lot but once he stopped, I snapped some more. I like to take 5-10 pictures from the same view and then decide later once it's on my larger computer screen, which one is best.

I have also included some of my other favorite animal photos that I have shot in the past. Let me know what you think! Also, if you have any questions, I would LOVE to answer.

Thank you Sandi for having me! See you for the next photo post. In the meantime, visit my blog if you would be so kind!
