TAKE TEN TUESDAY : CASSETTE TAPES

.
So who still own cassette's? Would I be crazy to say we do, though we haven't listened to them in a very, very long time. I have seen a lot of fun DIY with old cassette tapes, like that wallet or pencil box (7 & 8 below). So do you still listen to your old cassette's? If not have you made them into something unique and new. Happy take Ten Tuesday!

WEEKENDS VIA INSTAGRAM

Spending my weekends with these two (above) is always a blast! They are hilarious and the best of friends most days, and play and laugh so well together. The mister worked on miscellaneous project about our home as we prep for getting the house on the market but during his down time found time to make the kitty a scratching post, how sweet of him. I was over the moon to received the most lovely shoes from Ugglebo Clogs and a darling case from Iconemesis. Did a wee bit of shopping and ventured to the mall to walk about and window shop (love-loved those vinyl Mickey toys). The last time we were at a mall was over a year ago, and boy has it changed. The smell of cologne lingering in the air has always been my favorite though... that jokingly said... it actually makes me wanna barf, ha! The Lego store was pretty amazing, the kids loved it, and we also enjoyed stopping to view the carousel. A morning to two parks and picnic lunch, plus we spotted a Cicada coming out of his shell which was so unreal. There were pancakes, we're a breakfast loving/eating kinda family. And there was a little sewing time in there as the boy happily helped me wrap up a custom Ele. A few snapshots from our weekend. Enjoy :)

ICONEMESIS - CUPCAKE IPHONE CASE

.

So I recently received a wonderful iphone case from Iconemesis. I love it so much! The design is just darling and the case in general is a fabulous fit for my phone. There were a bunch of designs (below) I was drawn to when I was choosing one, but this Fifi Lapin's Cupcake design won my vote. Something about having a sweet tooth and being a cupcake fit me perfectly. If you haven't been over to Iconemesis yet you'll surely need to pop on by as they have a wonderful selections cases by talented UK artists. And if you love this Cupcake one (pictured) it's 20% off for a Limited Time with code ICON220 and if you're local to the UK they offer free shipping! Enjoy :)

This textile by Alexander Girard for Herman Miller, oh swoon! I love the retro graphic look and this piece is just fabulous. That purse is too darling though the price tags a bit over my budget. These Sorrento Ruins in Italy are beautiful! I've been collecting inspiration for someday when the mister and travel abroad and this one's now on the list. Happy Friday and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

WATERMELON SUMMER NAILS

Watermelon nails... well why not? I have been hunting for ideas of what to paint on my nails and for some reason fruit kept coming to mind. I've been trying techniques with applying tapes to do lines or zig zags, but I'm so impatient and seem to stick the tapes on a wee bit to soon only to rip off the first layer I just applied. Bah! Silly me. Also, I'm right handed so how do you even swap the nail brush to finish your other hand. I'm so-so at this but manage somehow. I painted the watermelons using 2 coats of nail polish (colors noted below) and a sharpie. I'm an artists, so markers on skin is already the norm but I'm sure some of you will disagree. After applying the pink coat I moved on to slowly hand painting the green. I did mess up 2 whole nails and had to redo them (more than once) but after the polish was all dry then I grabbed my marker and doodled some little seeds. And there you have it, Watermelon nails. Easy peasy. Do you have any fun nail tips and tricks?

POINT & CLICK WITH ANNA Z : BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES

Happy Thursday guys! Today I'm sharing some black & white pictures. I took the featured photo on a cloudy day this past spring when the cherry trees were all in bloom.

Here are some tips when taking B&W photos.
  • Shoot in color. You have more control over your end results if you have the color data to work with.
  • Low ISO. Shoot with a low film speed! You want as little grain as possible.
  • Gloomy days are a great days to shoot B&W photos. Low contrast make it easier to see detail.
  • Composition is important since you don't have color to lead the eye in to and around the shot. This means you need to train yourself to look at shapes, tones and textures in your frame as points of interest. Pay attention to shadows and highlights which will become a feature of your shot.
Thanks for having me Sandi! Now go out and shoot some pictures!

DIY TUTORIALS, SPOTTED & LOVED

.

A few DIY tutorials I've spotted and love. Those wooden legs for your couch, or maybe even a small side table or bench would be lovely. The first three items are from a new found site I came across and now adore called "Morning by Foley". All of the links shared here are so wonderful but there are also so many other's still out there waiting to be found. So what DIY's have you spotted and love lately?

SUMMER SMOOTHIE, YOGURT & MIXED BERRIES

Sometimes I like to randomly play with the blender and see what I can come up with. Every thing is always drinkable, but I don't always have luck with it coming out just like I had imagined it would. All Smoothie King like and tasting so refreshing. I kinda have a tendency to liquify things to a pulp, kinda to the extent of water if you will, but I think I finally got this smoothie thing down. Pulsing (the pulse button this is) on the blender, very slowly worked wonders! And this attempt at a summer mixed berry smoothie came out so yummy! My own twist on a tasty fruit smoothie. Enjoy!

WHAT I WORE : HELLO STAR DRESS AND OXFORD SHOES

.
The weather here has been feeling pretty lovely lately. Still sunny as ever but a bit more tolerable for some reason lately. Or maybe it's just that two month of heat has slowly grown on me. The sunsets and lighting in the evening are just fabulous... except when I leave work a hair to late and have to drive into pure sunlight cause the visor for us short girls doesn't make a difference. If this is the case, sometimes I just stop and relax for a sec and enjoy the view as the sun goes down before venturing home. Last night was one of those nights. The lighting was perfect at this location (pictured) by the post office. It cast the most wonderful cool and warm lighting effects when you step into the shadows of the overhead canopy over the parking lot. Oh and this dress... isn't it fabulous! I just love, love, LOVE this new dress from the lovely ladies over at Doubledutch Boutique. Taking a break today from Take 10 Tuesdays but you can catch up on prior ones here. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.  :)

WEEKENDS VIA INSTAGRAM

.
I recently had someone comment to me "your weekend always looks so fun and happy! how do you do it all and find time for things when it's only a few days off?" Well, to answer that question... technically my weekends start on Thursday night as I have Fridays now off. And boy do I love having Fridays off! Either getting caught up with things out and about (dr's appts and running errands) or to tackling projects around the home, that extra day off is a huge plus. We (the mister and I) work really well together to budget our time and get it all done. Now I won't lie, we don't get everything on our list done, it's just not realistic these days. Having kiddos is work in itself and we wouldn't trade it for anything but we have to be practical of what we can and shouldn't even dream about, getting done. It's also not always happy times over here, as everyone has there moments. Example - the girl having a meltdown over 10 minutes wanting chocolate covered raisins for dinner and mom & dad trying to explain nicely why we're not going to eat them. We try to look past these little tiffs though and focus on the happy of our weekend. Cause the meltdowns or other issues just don't matter at the end of the day and that's stuff I don't really care to share, cause I'm sure everyone has them, and knows all about it. In no particular order though here's a few happy highlights from this past weekend - a thrift outing with the boy (he was psyched to find a brass cat figurine which is now named Luna, ha!), puzzle time with the kiddos, reading tons and tons of books, getting a new dress in the mail (thanks Doubledutch Boutique!), bringing the kitty indoors (she's adjusting well), at home movie night with the mister (War Horse - it was ok), tie dying with the boy, a mommy and me (with penny) date morning which was to 2 toy stores (she came home with a new book, purple balloon and small toy story toy which she had saved her bday money for), while we (penny and I) shared a mommy morning the mister and the boy had a dad and me movie date to see Ice Age 4 (which they enjoyed), there were some board games (I think we played Pac-Man 4x) ;) and the weather cooled down in the 90's so we pulled out the pool and also made it out to another new park. Busy, busy, busy like always, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Hope your weekend was happy!

Todays Mini Collection is one personally, you could totally own. Aren't these organic, eco friendly kitty crayons by Kitty Baby Love just amazing! Portland based husband and wife artists Sara and Ben have created these fabulous crayons in a variety of color ways. If you're not into crayons, maybe candles? Which they offer these in the kitty design too, over at there etsy shop. Now I promise not to go to kitty crazy here and there, now that we have a feline in the house an all, but these have been on my radar for quite some time. Enjoy and Happy Monday!
