our weekend in pictures + free fall desktop

A few pictures from our busy weekend. What's not pictured, we enjoyed a fondue night with good friends on Saturday, we did a few thrift runs and found this lovely doll for Miss P and our washing machine is slowly dying so we had to decided to either buy a new one or use a washboard for the next few years, so we voted on a new one which will arrive Wednesday, woohoo! How was your weekend? Are you dressed up for Halloween today? We are, and I'll surely be sharing a few more photos with you tomorrow. xo :) s

p.s. there's a free desktop background down bottom if you'd care for one with a november calendar.

mini collections : vinyls by julie west

Happy Halloween Friends! I hope your weekend was fabulous! So this mornings mini collection is featuring one of my favorite artists, Julie West. If you don't know Julie's work please link on over and check out her amazing art. She is a very talented illustrator that has dabbled in the vinyl toy industry some and these are a few of her pieces which are among my toy collection. Did I ever tell you I collect toys? And we have quite a bit... they currently aren't on display due to space, but someday (hopefully sooner than later) they will make their way back out of their boxes to add a bit of color to out home. As I'm sharing all of these collections each Monday, I'm curious... What do you collect?

Ladies & Gentlemen Studio

Ladies and Gentlemen is a wonderful design studio offering an array of beautiful handmade pieces founded Jean Lee & Dylan Davis. Their love of vintage and mid century mod design had drawn me to find both their etsy & big cartel shops. Now look at those utensils, how awesome! The color palette alone is perfect, and that hand woven rug, oh swooooon. I could totally use one of them in my home. This couple is so talented, plus Jean runs another shop for handmade lovelies over at Chikabird. Hope you're week has wrapped up nicely. Happy Friday friends! xo :) s

vintage masks for a retro halloween

As Halloween is less than a week away, I thought it appropriate and inspirational to find and highlight some interesting retro pieces, vintage masks. Yesterdays, Take Ten Tuesdays included a mix of newer things I've currently been loving for Halloween, but todays vintage masks are equally as fabulous! There's something cheap and kinda cheesy about them, I mean, their plastic; but painted with bold colors and strong graphics, I just love them.

Are you wearing a mask for Halloween? Maybe a retro one?

Happy Birthday Anthony!

Today is my little brother's birthday! I want to send out a very special shout out to Anthony, who's celebrating being another year older today! We miss you and love you and hope you're day is Happy! Eat some cake and ice cream for us all. And mom (I know you're out there, give him a hug from us) xo :) s, b, w & p

mini collections : blue thread

I love to sew! But where would I be without thread. I'll admit, I have a slight obsession with wooden spools and these ones are part of a much larger collection which are stored in a vintage wooden sewing box. From time to time they are used for small one of a kinda projects, but mostly they just hang out waiting to me admired, or in this case photographed. I love blue, could you tell? Hope your weekend was happy! xo :) s

So what's your favorite color?

Precious Metals : Rings

Semi-precious stones, hand crafted glasses, metal alloys, hammered wire or hand carved wood, all of these materials are strikingly beautiful to say the least. At one time my hands were covered in rings but now my lifestyle and running all about just don't lend my fingers to such beauties. But I still do love getting dressed up to go out, so such treasures are always on my wish list for my personal collection (hint hint mister and family). Funky or glamourous, flashy or plain all of these rings below (and above) are so lovely. Happy weekend! xo :) s

So do you wear rings?

Thrifting in Springfield Missouri

Well a week ago, last Friday, I took a long car ride (6 hours round trip) to pick up my SIL for her college Fall break. She's attends school in lovely Springfield, MO and I have been wanting to go down there to check out the Red Velvet Shop for a bit now, plus visit the area to do a bit of thrifting. I asked my friend Rachel a few weeks ago about places to stop and shop at, and she gave me a nice little list which we were able visit almost all of them plus a few extra's. Below are 3 shops we enjoyed and if you're ever in South MO you should surely pop into these places too! Happy weekend! xo :) s
Some fun finds at this STD (not to sure of the name) Flea Market. I grabs a lovely kitchen table cloth, some small trinkets and 2 inspiration looking records, one is up on the right (red).

So excited to finally see this shop. It was overall super stylish and very pleasing aestheically. I wanted to live here but sadly I had to return home. There were handfuls of fabulous dresses (not to many in my size though but that's ok) it was such a fun shop to visit. Oh and I said hi to Emma, she's super sweet :)

what i wore. the graffitied wall

It was freezing (52) outside yesterday, like beyond cold, but I still managed to have a break in my day to snap a few pictures downtown by this colorful graffitied wall. I thought it complimented my hair well. What do you think? I also took some photography tips from Mel (thank you sweet lady) about how to focus my camera a bit better using a tripod and can I say I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I'm no photographer so I love learning new tips and tricks. I still did have a few head cut off images, and silly expressions on my face. Maybe I should share some out takes so you can all get a good laugh at my attempts. Hope you're weeks been happy so far. xo :) s

And isn't this wall fabulous!!! This is one of many murals around town by local artist Scribe

The Look : Spooky Halloween

Hello Adalou readers, I'm back again to bring you a more spooky look this month. Halloween is only a couple of weeks away now. I know we are very excited for Halloween at our house. It's one of Logan and I's favorite holidays to decorate for. I wanted to bring together a look for perhaps the family room or your foyer. This mixes mid century with some modern art. How do you and your family decorate for Halloween and fall every year? Do you have any fun traditions? I hope that you all have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
