As some of you may already know, over the weekend the mister and I decided to be adventurous and pack the car and head to the zoo. We decided this Thursday night and then left Saturday to spend all day and a night in Omaha. We decided a few weeks back we want to travel more with the kiddos, get out and see things and explore surrounding areas more so we set a goal to visit as many zoo's within a reasonable driving circumference over the course of this summer, with the intent that this will prepare for a big drive to Florida this Fall. If you follow me via Instagram you can see the photos of our trip under #thesummerofzoos and I'll continue updating there when we visit other zoos. The zoo in general was beautiful! So many animals and things to look at, plus it had an Aquarium which was very cool! It was an interesting trip to say the least filled with both ups and downs, and some learning curves along the way. Plus I kept a little notebook and noted things to do and not do next time as a reminder to self. If you have a chance to visit the Omaha Zoo it's so worth it! A few photos from our day out. Enjoy! :)

The Dessert Dome ( more info link here )
Let me tell you this thing was AMAZING!!! Up top was a dessert living area with tons of animals just hanging out, and below it was an under ground exhibit which was made like caves and filled with night time critters like tons of bats, a huge swap area with gators and snapping turtles (bigger than me), moles in tunnels and other things living in the dark. We (the mister and I) really wanted to look around the underground area more but... we have one toddler who is annoyed by smells and complained of it being so stinky and a little lady who's quite scared of the dark so we booked it quickly thru the underground level for them. But maybe next time we'll see it more.
Wyeth helped shot his own photos from the trip inside the Dome,
(the cactus above) and the Dome ceiling (above) and the penguins (below).
There was a dino dig (in recycled rubber shoes) for fossil's in the kids area.
Miss P usually give me the stinky eye (right image) for photos, this is typical face, but I caught a few cute pictures of her not looking. I loved her little side pigtails she wore that day, when she decided to keep them in ;)
Love, love, love Jellies (Jellyfish) and I couldn't stop watching them and have a good 2 dozen snap shots of them. Just love how transparent and beautiful they are.
The occasional sit down break time in 95 degree weather.
It was a long morning as we hiked without strollers (ooops forgot to pack them) so we rented strollers to help the kiddos relax a bit and give out arms a break from piggy back rides.
These kiddos love riding a train. They become mesmerized if you will.
The next day, stopped for picnic lunch on our drive home, a good leg stretch was much needed. But our trip, it was surely a fun little weekend. Hope you have a wonderful long weekend and Happy Thursday. Thanks for looking thru (and making it to the bottom of) all the snap shots. xo :) s

Hello sweet friends hope you're day's going fabulous! Well yesterday marked my 2 year anniversary for my vintage etsy shop, AdaLou. And I thought and thought, and thought some more about how to have a fun little celebration in honor of this little vintage shop. I came to the decision that everything, starting today, would be marked to 50% OFF (coupon code HAPPYTWO) in the shop for the whole month of June! Yah, half off sale!!! Also with June being one of my oh so favorite months, there will be a few special giveaways in honor of my AdaLou shop (so keep your eyes peeled for a vintage treasure giveaway or two) and with all of your help from "vote for your giveaway" item (and you can still vote here) that you'll have a special handmade items from yours truly up for grabs too. I can't wait for June, I love Summer! I just wanted to take a sec to say how much I appreciate all of you support, either thru the blog, my shops, your sweet comments via twitter and instagram or the personal emails I get from everyone of you on a daily basis. It all makes my heart smile (and my face too). And as I come to an end and wrap up things for the Ric Rac Roundup Craft fair this weekend (if your KC please come join us all it's going to be awesome!) I've decided it's about time that the handmade shop gets updated with fun new items I've been making special for the show. There will be items popping into the Benandi shop in the following week. Items which seemed popular by demand and other's which I just truly love. I'll update you all here as I go and I promise not to be to crazy with the shop updates (they'll most likely be bundled as one post) but if there's something you've seen and are curious more about don't hesitate to email me as I always love replying and saying howdy to you too. Thank you again all so much and Happy Wednesday!

Oooo la la, don't these look delish. I'm intrigued by them and how colorful they are. Would I be crazy to say, I've never had a Macaroon before. I haven't ever seen them locally, but maybe I've been looking in all the wrong places. I imagine they are quite tasty though. Do you enjoy Macaroons? What do they taste like?

I have a thing for color and items being arranged in tonal order. I love seeing things lined up all pretty in rainbow colors and I feel not only, can things look pretty this way, but they can remain so organized while doing so. Grouping liked colored together can add a sense of calm to clutter. About our tiny home which is packed with tiny treasures we've grouped liked items by size, style, what the item is (like a collection of camera's sits together) or in color order. A grouping of the color brown, one of my favorite colors. Happy Take Ten Tuesdays!

Todays collection is a doodled collection from a print I just finished up last week titled "Ladybug 29" hence the number of ladybugs doodled. Little ole bug number 29 is the special colored gem of the clan. Twenty nine has always been a lucky number for me and ladybugs are good luck icons in general so it only seemed appropriate for this print. I'll update you soon with some photos of our weekend adventure to Omaha, it was interesting to say the least. Happy Monday Mini Collection and have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day!

Yum, yum, yum! As you all know the mister loves to cook and this dish was soooo good. It had great flavoring to it too and fairly easy to make. Enjoy!

(renamed via us, but Martha Stewarts "Pasta with Peppers, Squash, and Tomatoes ")
Approx. Time 45 Minutes // Serves 4

Coarse salt
3/4 pounds rigatoni (we used "brain noodles (as W puts it) instead)
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb sweet or spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
1 bell pepper (not green, we used red), cut into 1/4-inch strips
1 small yellow squash, cut into 1/4-inch rounds
2 pounds cherry tomatoes, halved red-pepper flakes
1 red onion, cut in lengthwise long strips (this was something we added additional)
Grated Pecorino Romano, for serving

1.) In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water, then drain. 2) Meanwhile, in a large skillet, heat 1 Tablespoon oil over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking apart with a slotted spoon until cooked through, about 6 minutes. With slotted spoon, transfer sausage to a bowl. 3.) Add 1 Tablespoon oil and bell pepper to skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned in spots, 6 minutes. Add squash and 3/4 tomatoes; cook 1 minute. Add 1/4 cup pasta water and cook until tomatoes soften, 4 minutes. Return sausage to pan and add remaining tomatoes. Season with red pepper flakes. Cook until sausage is warmed through and juices thicken slightly, about 2 minutes. Toss with pasta; if necessary, add remaining pasta water to create a light sauce that coats pasta. Serve with Pecorino Romano.

Sam Baron is a designer and avid lover of food. A self taught artist with an eye for mix mediums and a array of overall interesting subject matters. His collection of glass sausages titled "For Better or Wurst" (above) are amazing. I spotted these a bit back and actually thought it was a digital illustration or painting but until I read a bit more was it then that I realized they were actually all handmade glass creations. Amazing to say the least. Enjoy!

p.s. did you get yourself signed up for this weeks fabulous giveaway yet?

Over work lunch breaks lately I've been exploring outdoors. It's been beautiful (in the high 80's here) so I shot a few photos of this dress and stylish shoes c/o Nicole. Now no filters were used on the photos (pictured here) but, depending where I stood the lighting reflected bluer or browns and yellows. Isn't that cool? I'm loving the yellow tone ones the best. I hope you all have a lovely day. Happy Friday!

I've been busy busy working away for a local craft fair and sharing photos via Instagram when I can. I am so appreciative of all your support, you all are the best! I've had more than a handful of people ask me for items I'm sharing and though I would love to offer them up to you right away, I'd be cutting myself short on items for my show (you understand right) but this isn't to say I won't be making more for the shop after the show passes, because I will be. As a thank you for your continued support though, I want to try something new for a giveaway. This will take place at a later date in the next month of June (which is like a week away). But I'm gonna need your help and honest opinions. I'm also hoping this free poll service doesn't bite the big one on me during the process, but we'll give it a go and see how it works. I would like you to vote for a giveaway item. I created a few items in the drop down menu below. Things which seem to be popular, like custom pieces, necklaces, wall hangings, etc and there is an "other" button too so I'm open for suggestions. I'm not to sure how the "other" button will work, if you can add a spot of your suggestion but if not, leave me a comment below and I'll add it to my running tally. Have you seen something I've shared recently and are more curious about it? This giveaway item will be something from/made by me, personalized to you. This poll will stay live thru the end of the month and I will decided the item at the beginning of June and then host a special giveaway around the most popular choice. So here's your chance to let me know what you'd care for. Are you ready to vote? Click on the drop down below and vote away and you may follow along on the votes here. Hoping this is fun. Happy Thursday!

You choose the giveaway. What would you like to win? free polls

I'm always looking for new music to listen to. The mister does an excellent job providing me with a new artist each week to get my fix. Last week Alabama Shakes was the band, and boy oh boy do I like them, scratch that, LOVE them! It's been on my playlist since Friday and I think I've listened it a dozen + times. I'm one of those people who loves to listen to music over and over and doesn't get sick of it, it's not for all (the mister hates this) but I could keep a good cd in my car for, oh, ya know, 3 months to a year... This is one of those cd's that may slowly disappear and become one with the car. I heard their music a few months back as a new and up and coming band to watch but couldn't recall their name and didn't hear them much after this. But with their recent cd release, they seem to be flying off the charts and I just love Brittany Howard's voice. I also heard word that if your in KC they will be preforming live this August for the Buzz Under the Stars along side Silversun Pickups, Garbage, FUN and more. What an awesome concert that I surely want to go to (hey mister, hint hint ;) ). Hope you enjoy them. Happy Wednesday!

This past weekend we celebrated our little lady's 2nd birthday. We had decided weeks back to do a mini road trip to the Topeka Zoo since she is a huge fan of animals. The morning of she woke up to some fun balloons I made the night prior and was so happy to sit near her new little friends. We had a small accident with Pooh popping but all of the gang is still hanging around the house today.
The balloons were a we bit tricky for me to figure out but after one the rest seemed a bit easier. I wanted to make her something specials so I found images of each characters online and then attempted to recreate the faces with a Sharpie marker and some cut construction paper.
After arriving at the Zoo, which is located inside a much bigger park, we played on the swing sets and then enjoyed a train ride (mini kids train) around the park. It was highly enjoyed by both kiddos and may have been one of the highlights of their trip.
The train, the playground and a break to stop for a picnic lunch but then we soon made our way into the zoo! The zoo was cute and we enjoyed seeing the animals, especially the elephants, penguins and large cats. Did you notice Penny lost her bday dress. To hot, so she had a back up tee which got her many special birthday wishes. Which she loved.
Across the parking lot from the zoo is a playground and cement animal sculpture garden. I thought I grabbed more snapshots of this but I guess we were to busy playing that I missed it. They has a whale (you could climb in it's mouth), kangaroo's (you could hide in their pouches), Octopus (you could hang from his huge legs) and mush more. Elephants are one of Penny's fav so I surely had to get a picture of them.
In the park, where the zoo is, there was an original restored vintage 1900's carousel. Along side the carousel were classic cut out faces of Dorothy and the Wizard of OZ characters. Go figure, we live in Kansas :) The carousel choice by miss P was the zebra and W picked the white horse right by this so he could see her while riding. What a sweet brother.
On the ride home we lost them to the car ride. Go figure. A two hour car trip, walk around the zoo, play in the park, train ride, carousel and overall sunny day and they were pooped.
After returning home, we enjoyed some relaxing time (the kiddos slept, ha) but then when up, we gave Penny the choice of a dinner outing and she picked her favorite local place, Mimi's Cafe. We're not to sure if it's the word "cafe" or that she calls it the "purple house" and loves the colored roof or that she loves being able to eat pancakes for any meal of the day there, but we enjoyed a quick bite out and then back home for some tasty brownies with sprinkles. It was a eventful and fabulous day to turn 2!
Thanks for looking thru all the photos.
Hope your weeks going fabulous, Happy Wednesday!
