Recently, I purchased some red lipstick. I'm not a lipstick person at all but I figured I'd give it a try and see how it looked. In college (in painting classes) we learned about adding pops of 3 colors "the triangle theory" as I liked to put it. This theory is that within your artwork you always create a triangle to add balance. By placing colors accordingly to form a triangle, your eye will always be drawn back inward about the piece and never loose interest. Well I tried to apply this theory for my attire and I think it actually helped balance that lipstick out a bit. Do you see the triangle? Happy weekend dear friends!

I'm loving these illustrations by the California based artist Nan Lawson. She's a self taught artist with definitely a creative style that I love! Her little portraits, the line work, tiny details and washy water color backdrops are beautiful. The braided hair one (bottom left) is probably my favorite though. Something about the side braid and her hair over her eyes... but honestly, they're all pretty wonderful. And she has a bit more than just these in her shop so make sure to peek on over there too. And you may visit her elsewhere thru the links listed below. Happy Thursday!

Though I find myself spending a great deal of time antique/thrift store hunting solo... treasure hunting is always more fun with friends! Don't you agree? Finding a fabulous item and then sharing in that excitement together, it's pretty awesome. I'm sure you've seen me mention her prior on the blog, but this is Sara, and she's one of my most dearest friends. We treasure hunt monthly on First Fridays when we can, but last week we ran out for an afternoon antiquing together, and we noticed (completely unplanned too) we were wearing a bit of the same hue. I guess yellows the new color, because we both seemed we can't get enough of it. I just couldn't help but include her in my "What I Wore" post, because I thought not only did we match a bit but isn't she just to cutest!!! Happy Tuesday sweet friends!

I took a few days off from the blog to catch up on life but was still sharing photos on IG, a peek into our weekend. Enjoy :)

  • The boy and I ventured out for Black Friday to Toys"R"Us and did a little shopping for the girl. The boy was beyond amazing and didn't ask for a thing, but did tell me his sister may really like purple Legos or a dinosaur toy.
  • We settled on Lalaloopsy dolls which I hope she loves! If not mom surely loves them :)
  • My SIL toughed it out and went to get her first tattoo.
  • I'm on to week 5 of working out and the elliptical and I have become best friends.
  • The boy and his aunt continue to make us giggle with their silly faces (especially while out to eat)
  • The mister and I did a date night and walked the Plaza (outdoor shopping center) and I so wanted that owl printed tee, if only I was a little boy would it fit me, ha!
  • I've added that Zombie calendar is on my list for Christmas.
  • Our date night ended with a trip to the Cheesecake Factory for a tasty Apple Crisp, yum!!!
  • Though Halloween is long over the kiddos can't seem to get enough of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" it's the boys favorite and the girl surely loves it too.
  • Weekends are for messes and the living room was turned into a toy museum slash explosion!
  • The girl enjoyed some kids apps on the ipod. She seems to be more gadget savvy than me. Her favorite game is "ToysRUs Toy Story Memory" she's pretty darn good at it too.
  • I love breakfasts for dinner and feel like a kid eating them... and drinking my glass of eggnog too ;)
  • And the kids and mister made our yearly Scrabble Mix, which good thing we gift it to friends or else I may turn into a pretzel.

Hope your weekend was awesome!

For as long as I can recall my family has collected insulators and there use to be a bunch on top of the hearth in out home. I'd play with them and arrange them by color, shapes or sizes and could stare at them forever. Have you ever noticed these things (above) and not really known what they were? Well if you have power lines in your area you may be so lucky to spot one of them up top of a nearby poll. An insulators is used to help transmit high voltages of power thru the lines, and though I'm not a brainiac about power by any means I know that some of the older insulators (like these glass ones above) are retired over time and then replaced with newer ones. I've currently seen a trendy in the antique malls or thrift stores with them. My dad (who works for the power company, for many years now) has acquired the most wonderful personal collection. He was even so kind to give me a few which we use in our home currently as decorative door stops. So do you own any insulators? Happy Monday sweet friends, it's lovely to be back today and I hope your Thanksgiving was fabulous! :)

Hello sweet friends, I just wanted to just let you all know that I need a little blog break. I love this place SO much and I enjoy sharing bits of my personal life here... but life has been a little off kilter lately due to schedules changes and life events which leaves me needing to step away from the blog for a few days to figure out where things are suppose to be. I'll be back later this weekend but I hope you all have a wonderful next few days, and Thanksgiving, if you celebrate this holiday, I hope you enjoy time with your family and the ones you love. A holiday tradition for us has always been writing on a piece of paper one serious and one silly things we're thankful for which then we share aloud. I wanted to note one thing of each which I'm thankful for today. What are you thankful for? Have a wonderful day!

  • Probably the obvious but I'm so thankful for my kids and how they make me smile.
  • And a quirky, I'm so thankful for warm apple pie! Which I'll be making for our holiday dinner, and I can't wait to eat!

How breathtaking is this collection of colorful glassware which belongs to Laura Trevey of the Bright Bold & Beautiful Blog. The rainbow colored hues are simply amazing and I would love to own such an impressive collection of pieces myself. The way the light reflects off each glass form is just lovely. Do you collect glassware? Is your collection organized as detailed or organized like a rainbow? Hope your weekend was wonderful!

That laced lingerie bodysuit is beyond gorgeous! I love the color and back details with a bow. Design Atelier Article makes unique clocks, book ends and other various wooden pieces. This coral colored clock surely caught my attention. The place is said to be Petra, Jordan and it looks beyond amazing. The color alone is stunning and I could only image what the real view is like. Happy Friday sweet friends! Any weekend plans? :)

Well it took me some time (a good 30+ years) to get my first tattoo... but I did it! Woohoo! It honestly wasn't at all what I was making it out to be. I imagined myself feeling sick or passing out from the pain. I was worried they'd get started and I'd chicken out some and have half a tattoo... but it so wasn't like this at all. It was quick (all of 15 minutes) and pretty painless (a few pinches, nothing major) and now I can see why some people could quickly become completely covered. And I couldn't love it more! The tattoo artist, Scott Shickman, over at Mercy Seat did such an amazing job! I was highly impressed of his worked from the moment I flipped thru his portfolio and then his backwards and upside down technique to tattoo my arm (which worried me some that it would be uncentered) was unreal... and he surely knew his thing and the design came out perfect. For those who've already privately asked me (or those of you curious), yes, I did use my own hand lettering to write out my kiddos names for this piece. It may seem a bit boring to some that I just tattooed name but these kids have a bit more of a special meaning behind them than just that so it's a nice daily reminder to myself of just that. I have some ideas of my next design, and I will definitely be going back to Scott when it's time. Happy Thursday lovely friends. :)

  • The weekend started off with lovely Fall weather. A nice high of 67 and sunny (above) but ended cold rainy and in the 30's eck! Winter must be on it's way...
  • Enjoyed some music and movies at home
  • Took a trip to see "Wreck it Ralph" which was Penny's first trip to a theatre and she did surprisingly better than we thought she would have. Both kids (and parents) loved the movie though.
  • Took the boy on a little mom and me date to the book store to spend some time hunting the dinosaur and shark section for new books. We we informed he wants to be an Paleontologist and needs to start learning of all the bones now... he also wants to drive construction trucks ;)
  • I went to get my first ever tattoo. I was so nervous but after I got in there and started it wasn't half as bad as I had been working it up to be and I'll sure be back for another... And I'll share the tattoo photo and a post about it all after my ink has healed up a bit more. :)
  • One of the guys at the tattoo shop owned the most lovely Ford Falcon, oh swoon!!!
  • We had a few car issues in the weeks past with my Jetta. After another trip to the mechanic in less than a month we found out we'd be better off investing in a new car. I'm a big HUGE VW fan as my first car I loved and was so sad to have to part with was my '92 GTi. I swore I'd get another one someday... and well... someday just happened to be this weekend!
  • Enjoyed my new plaid boots and had to sport a lumberjack look and go all out with a plaid top. ;)
  • Did a bit of thrifting, and personal shopping.
  • Enjoyed a night run and my time was surprisingly better than the last. And yup, as Anastasia (mcdonnellism) said it on IG I ran with my trust light saber - aka one of the kiddos glow stick flashlight whistles. ;)
  • And the weekend is over and I would love more sleep... can it be Saturday again?

Hope you're weekend was wonderful!

Love this dainty little collection of vintage sewing thimbles owned by the wonderful Lisa Congdon. If you don't know Lisa you surely need to pop over to her site to check out her lovely illustrations, hand lettering and collections!
